Intense Pulsed Light
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) involves the application of high energy, broadband light to the skin. This light is absorbed by brown and red structures in the skin, and because of this IPL effectively treats such problems as:
- facial redness
- "Broken" blood vessels
- Sun damage
- Brown spots, "liver spots", sun spots
- poikiloderma of civatte (a form of sun damage)
IPL is non-invasive and well-tolerated. There is no down-time associated with this procedure. The skin may look reddened for several hours, and individuals can usually return to work the next day. Generally, three to six treatments are required, depending on the severity of the problem being treated and the patient's goals. Treatments are usually spaced three to four weeks apart.
