Excess sweating, also known as  hyperhidrosis, is a common problem in which individuals sweat excessively from their armpits, hands, feet, forehead, scalp, or other areas.  It is often embarrassing and highly distressing to individuals who live with this condition.

Thankfully, several treatment modalities have emerged in order to address this problem.  One of the more effective and convenient treatments that have been developed for hyperhidrosis is the use of injections of botulinum toxin in to the areas that sweat excessively. Most individuals experience approximately a 90% improvement in sweating that lasts an average of 5-7 months. Improvement begins in 1-4 days and results are maximal within 1-2 weeks.  Generally, 1-2 vials are required per treatment.

The cost of the medication in these cases is often covered by private insurance plans, although the injection fees are generally not covered.   A more detailed discussion of hyperhidrosis, including a list of treatment options can be found here.
